5 Star Band
Biography
Bruce and Berni Yakoweshen, along with Jason Wolff from the former Prairie Rose Band, put together a new and exciting group called “5 Star” in the fall of 2013. Together they hope to appeal to a wide variety of genres including country, rock, and traditional Ukrainian music. The new members in this band are George Paleniuk formerly of Charka and also Rod Olstad formerly of The Kubasonics.

Absolute Band
Biography
Absolute is a 5 piece band that was formed in 1997 when a group of friends gathered to share their love for Ukrainian folk and dance music. Even though they are known for their Ukrainian music, they are very well versed with more traditional English music such as polkas, waltzes, rhumbas, butterflies, 7 step, modern country, old time rock and roll, etc.

Akolada Ukrainian Choral Society
Biography
Akolada is a mixed choral ensemble comprising 13-16 singers (sopranos, altos, tenors and basses) with a passion for Ukrainian folk music sung in traditional and contemporary choral arrangements. The group’s name appropriately comes from a musical term that unites voices from the treble and bass musical lines.

The relatively small size of the group and high quality performances make Akolada ideal for any occasion with an audience that appreciates Ukrainian folk music. Our repertoire and commentary is customized to the occasion and we strive to connect with the audience and elevate the event ambience.
Alberta Craft Council
Biography
The Alberta Craft Council is the Provincial Arts Service Organization that develops, promotes and advocates for fine craft in Alberta. Since 1980, the ACC has promoted craft in Alberta through exhibitions, publications, marketing ventures, education, awareness projects and information services to its membership and to the general public. The ACC has a dual role: to support contemporary and heritage crafts as significant art forms that contribute to Alberta’s culture; and to develop a craft sector of creative, skilled, viable and sustainable craftspeople, studio, businesses and networks.

The ACC operates the only public gallery in the province dedicated to exhibiting craft arts and is Edmonton’s second largest public gallery. The ACC organizes 15-20 exhibitions each year and runs a Gallery Shop that markets work from about 130 professional and emerging crafts people and craft artists.
Alberta Ukrainian Dance Association
Biography
The Alberta Ukrainian Dance Association was founded in 1983 to help service the needs of the Ukrainian Dance Community. With its inception, the association had the following objectives in mind:
• To serve as a liaison in the Ukrainian Dance Community
• To respond to requests for assistance from dance groups and instructors
• To promote Ukrainian heritage
• To give advice to Ukrainian dance groups in Alberta
• To help provide information through conferences and workshops
• To collect and distribute information on Ukrainian dance
Alberta Zirka Ukrainian Performers
Biography
The Alberta Zirka Ukrainian Performers was founded in 1975. Over 450 dancers from Calmar and the surrounding communities of Leduc, Devon, Thorsby, Warburg, Beaumont, Millet, Drayton Valley and Edmonton have developed and performed their talents through the organization since its inception. Under the artistic direction of Dave Ganert, Zirka strives to create a fun and respectful Ukrainian dance environment that is inspirational, educational, and encourages a spirit of interest in Ukrainian dance and culture. Zirka offers a professional dance program that follows a syllabus of Ukrainian dance study beginning at age 3 to adult class.

Zirka performs, does educational outreach community programs for youth as well as demonstrations.

Biography
Hazel Anaka is located near Andrew, AB and is the Festival Coordinator of Babas & Borshch Ukrainian Festival. She is a writer and visual artist.

Biography
Hayley is an artist from Edmonton, working mainly in acrylic and pastel. She does a range of landscapes and nature scenes, integrating vibrant colours and geometric shapes. She is a full-time teacher, and exhibits her work around Edmonton and Canmore, AB.

Danielle is a self taught artist from Edmonton who paints mostly landscapes. Her style is not quite defined, however most of her work follows a realism tone. Some work involves a mix of abstract and realism.

C & D Consulting
Biography
C & D Consulting (Charlie and Debbie Gargus) organize a one day music workshop featuring Ukrainian music. This event is usually held in March in the town of Mundare. Instruction is provided for the fiddle (multi levels of ability), keyboard, accordian, dulcimer, guitar and ballads.

Chaika Concert Ensemble
Biography
Chaika Concert Ensemble consists of various combinations of Ukrainain folk, string, woodwind, brass and rhythm section instruments. We play three or more part ensemble and orchestral arrangements of Ukrainian traditional folk, ritual, seasonal, classical, popular and contemporary selections.

Chaika Concert Ensemble performs full-program instrumental and vocal concerts, as well as shorter program sets. Currently CHAIKA is looking for more young male and/or female vocalists to be featured with the Ensemble. Along with this our doors are open to have more instrumental musicians audition and be added to our players list. Please contact them for availability.
Pamela Clark
Biography
Pam Clark’s journey to writing her first novel, Kalyna, began with her family history in Edna-Star. Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Pam has melded her love of history and storytelling into her career as an educator and was inspired to write the novel, Kalyna, as a celebration of the human spirit, the ability to forgive and the necessity to move forward in turbulent times. She lives in Calgary with her family and is available for readings, speaking and writing support/ editing.
