When artist Thea Szewczuk proposed her ACUA exhibition concept last year, inspired by Ukraine’s national flower the sunflower, who knew we would see war and this flower becoming the symbol of solidarity that we see today? See Thea’s vivid paintings April 2022 at ACUA as part of our Signature Artist Series.
“I am currently developing a series of works centered primarily on the sunflower in all its glorious stages. The sunflower, Ukraine’s national flower, reminds us of health and vitality from the nurturing of the sun–it stands tall, hearty and proud, and then droops at night as a reminder of our earthly journey. I wish to take viewers on this journey, akin to our own, in a visual explosion of vivid color and energy. In addition to stand alone sunflower pieces, I will incorporate a few figurative works that weave sunflowers as visual symbols of life and/or ornamentation within the art.”
