Andriana Kuruts

“In the mid-90s I saw an ocarina in a magazine and wanted to try and make one. I experimented a lot until I reached the results I have today. I create my ocarinas using Transcarpathian and Hungarian clay. I use symbols I find in old Ukrainian and central European folk patterns, but I interpret them differently. I engrave the patterns manually using a needle while the surface is not yet polished. Therefore, my ocarinas are an entirely handmade piece of art: from the extraction of the clay to the sculpting, from the setting of the sound to the polishing with special stones and decorating.”

Andriana Kuruts was born in 1978 in the Uzhorod Transcarpathian region, where she continues to reside today. She graduated from the Uzhorod College of Arts and has displayed her work at various exhibitions and events, such as the “Old Lviv” fair. She has also participated in the International Ocarina Festival in Italy.
