Liliya Kostiuk

Liliya was born in Lviv, Ukraine and now resides in Edmonton. From early childhood she liked to paint and attended Lviv School of Arts eventually graduating from Lviv National Academy of Arts with a Bachelor’s Degree in the Art of Glass. In 2020 Liliya graduated again from Lviv National Academy of Arts with a Master’s Degree in Art History and Theory. A principal theme in Liliya’s work is nature and architecture and occasionally modern art.

Liudmyla Lushchyk

Lyudmyla Lushchyk is a new arrival from the picturesque Cherkasy region in Ukraine. She came to Edmonton with four children, a husband, and her mother. She is a financier by education, but an artist by heart! She likes to create various interior decor and women’s handbags in the macrame technique, hanging chairs, and swings. Last Summer she had an interesting experience holding a master class in Poland and realized art is truly an international language of communication.

Taras Lachowsky

Taras Lachowsky is a Ukrainian-Canadian experiencing the Russian invasion of Ukraine on a very personal level as a member of the Ukrainian diaspora. While watching the news feeds and personal videos sent to him the emotional spectrum runs high and he feels helpless, stunned, and numb.

This exhibit is Taras’ way of trying to record, understand, and make sense of something his parents experienced and now asks if war is something Ukrainians of every generation must endure. Every morning in his studio in Guelph, Ontario he wakes and moves out of a paralysis to create; to balance out the destruction, pain, and horror he has seen from his safe harbour.

This is the exhibit that that has come from this emotional wreckage, journey, and nightmare.
