ELISE FUTORANSKY is an artist living and practicing in Edmonton, Alberta. Her work is sourced primarily in printmaking and painting, and she draws on her Eastern European background for inspiration. Her practice often references folk practices and the narrow delineation between art and craft, as well as utilising religious elements as visual shorthand. The tension between tradition and the contemporary is highly of interest to Elise, and as such her work is not only a celebration of her heritage but also an investigation of how culture is filtered through the passage of time and distance.

TARAS LACHOWSKY is a Ukrainian-Canadian artist living, working, and creating in Guelph, Ontario. His current body of work is an extension of the examinations begun with the Vytynanka (Ukrainian paper cut-outs) study. It continues the narrative revolving around the post colonial discussions of belonging and acknowledgement. He is inspired by Vytynanka ideas and techniques, the symbolism of Vyshyvanky (Ukrainian embroideries,) and Pysanky (Ukrainian Easter egg,) pattern, design, and colours. Taras hopes to introduce and familiarize people with the words of Ukraine and make them a part of the Canadian lexicon. As a “vintage ethnic,” his voice wanders between where he came from and where he fits in currently, but is always trying to communicate and understand. For Taras, folklore and ethnic modernity are two great wells of information and inspiration.
