Avant-Garde Lecture Series
This trilogy of interactive lectures will guide you through the Ukrainian culture of the early 20th century - to the era modernism. The aim of this lecture series is to emphasize the changing and often revolutionary features of Ukrainian modernist and avant-garde movements. Together we will take a trip in time and explore the specifics of impressionism and expressionism in art, music, and literature. We will discusss the Futurist movement with its thirst for rebellion and connect the bridges between the modernistic trends of the early 20th century with the pieces of contemporary Ukrainian art presented at the ACUA gallery. Finally, we will delve into the world of cinematography and treat ourselves with watching and discussing a silent film Zemlina [Earth] (1930) by a world-known Ukrainian director Oleksandr Dovzhenko.
